😴 Side position for snoring

No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.

What you do

Sleep on your side rather than your back; a pillow behind you holds the position. Raise the head of the bed a little. Skip alcohol in the evening.

Why it is plausible

On the back the tongue falls back and narrows the throat. On the side the passage stays more open; alcohol relaxes the muscles further.

What it cannot do

It makes snoring quieter, not gone. And it does not distinguish harmless snoring from breathing pauses.

When to leave it

Observed breathing pauses, waking short of breath or marked daytime sleepiness need assessing — that is something other than snoring.

Get seen at once: the sudden, worst headache of your life, headache with fever and a stiff neck, with weakness, speech or vision trouble. Likewise dizziness with double vision or an unsteady gait. Sleeplessness over weeks with loss of drive is something to discuss, not to endure.
