No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.
Break the shoes in beforehand, two thin socks instead of one thick, check the seams. At the first hot spot stop at once and tape over it — do not wait.
A blister comes from friction between skin layers. Two socks let the friction happen between the socks rather than on the skin.
Once the blister is there, prevention is over — then it is only about padding and keeping it clean.
Do not cut the blister open or peel the skin off; it is the best dressing. With diabetes or circulation problems any open place on the foot needs looking at.
Have it assessed: heat with confusion, dry hot skin or clouded consciousness — that is more than exhaustion. A one-sided swollen leg after a long journey. And anything new that does not go away within a few days.
