💻 Eye break at the screen

No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.

What you do

Every 20 minutes look into the distance for 20 seconds and blink consciously; place the screen a little below eye level.

Why it is plausible

At a screen you blink far less often; the tear film breaks up. A lower screen also reduces the exposed eye surface.

What it cannot do

It corrects neither a refractive error nor a disease of the lid margins.

When to leave it

No restriction. Persistently red, painful eyes or worsening vision need looking at.

When it is no longer a home remedy

When it is no longer a home remedy

To the doctor or dentist: facial swelling with fever, toothache with trouble opening the mouth, a knocked-out tooth — that is an emergency with a short window. For the eye: sudden loss of vision, severe pain, flashes of light. Sore places in the mouth lasting beyond three weeks.
