No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.

What you do

Hot water bottle or heat patch on the lower abdomen, 20 to 30 minutes, as often as needed.

Why it is plausible

Warmth relaxes the womb muscle. In comparisons it reaches relief in the order of mild painkillers.

What it cannot do

It changes nothing about endometriosis or fibroids — it only eases the cramp.

When to leave it

Heat patches not on reddened skin and not overnight. Period pain that stops everyday life or newly becomes very strong needs assessment.

When it is no longer a home remedy

When it is no longer a home remedy

Have it assessed: bleeding outside the cycle or after the menopause, strong one-sided lower abdominal pain, fever with discharge, any new lump in the breast. In pregnancy almost anything is a reason to call. With mastitis and fever, do not wait longer than a day.
