Home remedies · Colds, nose & fever
No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.
Raise the head end — with a wedge under the mattress or books under the bed legs, not with a stack of pillows.
Secretions drain downwards instead of into the throat; this reduces night cough and the reflux of stomach acid.
A stack of pillows only bends the neck and barely works — the tilt must come from the bed.
For infants the mattress stays flat — raised positioning increases the risk of the baby sliding into an unfavourable position.
Have it assessed: fever beyond three days without improvement or rising again, breathlessness, pain on breathing, confusion. In infants under three months any fever is a reason. Also a nosebleed that has not stopped after twenty minutes of correct pressure.
