🥤 Drinking enough during an infection

No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.

What you do

Drink spread over the day, warm preferred, enough that the urine stays pale.

Why it is plausible

Fever and faster breathing cost fluid; enough of it keeps secretions thin and the circulation steady.

What it cannot do

Drinking a great deal helps no more than drinking enough — the old advice of litres is outdated.

When to leave it

With heart or kidney failure the medically agreed drinking amount applies, even during an infection.

When it is no longer a home remedy

When it is no longer a home remedy

Have it assessed: fever beyond three days without improvement or rising again, breathlessness, pain on breathing, confusion. In infants under three months any fever is a reason. Also a nosebleed that has not stopped after twenty minutes of correct pressure.
