Home remedies · Stomach, gut & nausea
No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.
Look forward and into the distance, sit at the front, open a window slightly, do not read, eat small dry portions; ginger half an hour before the journey.
Sickness arises when the inner ear reports movement and the eyes report stillness. Looking forward brings the two reports together.
Once the sickness is there little helps — the moment before the journey is decisive.
With children avoid the back seat with a screen. Dizziness that occurs without travelling or comes with hearing loss is something else.
Do not treat yourself: strong, increasing or suddenly starting abdominal pain, a hard belly, blood in the stool or black stool, vomiting blood. With diarrhoea it is fluid loss that counts — dry tongue, little urine, drowsiness. In children and older people this happens faster.
