No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.
Spread cold quark a finger thick on a cloth, apply, remove as soon as it warms or dries — usually after 20 to 30 minutes.
The compress cools slowly and evenly because the water in it evaporates. That is more pleasant than an ice pack and lasts longer.
The effect is the cooling — not the quark. If you have none, a damp cloth does the same.
Not on broken skin, wounds or rashes. Avoid with milk protein allergy.
See a doctor: wounds that gape, bleed heavily or are deep, bite wounds, burns larger than your own palm or with blisters on the face and joints. Likewise redness spreading quickly, especially with fever. And any mole that changes.
