Gently scrape the back of the tongue from back to front in the morning with a tongue scraper or the back of a spoon, and clean between the teeth daily.
Most of the smell arises on the back of the tongue and between the teeth — not in the stomach, as is often assumed.
Mouthwash masks, it does not remove. If the smell persists despite good care, look at gums, tonsil stones and dry mouth.
Do not scrape too far back — the gag reflex is unpleasant, nothing more. Alcohol-based mouthwashes used daily dry the lining and make it worse over time.
