No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.
Apply cool pads wrapped in a cloth for 15 to 20 minutes, several times a day in the first days; plus sitz baths in plain water.
Cold eases swelling and pain in the perineum; sitz baths keep things clean without rubbing.
It does not replace checking the stitches if something is not healing.
Never ice directly on the skin. With increasing pain, a bad smell, fever or heavy bleeding get in touch at once.
Have it assessed: bleeding outside the cycle or after the menopause, strong one-sided lower abdominal pain, fever with discharge, any new lump in the breast. In pregnancy almost anything is a reason to call. With mastitis and fever, do not wait longer than a day.
