🚽 Haemorrhoids: cool and do not strain

No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.

What you do

After a bowel movement clean with lukewarm water instead of rubbing, apply cool compresses, do not sit longer than three minutes on the toilet.

Why it is plausible

Long sitting and straining raise the pressure in the cushion exactly there. Cooling reduces swelling and itching.

What it cannot do

Soft stool is the real lever — without enough fibre and fluid nothing changes.

When to leave it

No moist toilet paper with fragrance and preservatives — it irritates further. Blood in the stool always needs assessment and is never simply blamed on haemorrhoids.

When it is no longer a home remedy

When it is no longer a home remedy

Do not treat yourself: strong, increasing or suddenly starting abdominal pain, a hard belly, blood in the stool or black stool, vomiting blood. With diarrhoea it is fluid loss that counts — dry tongue, little urine, drowsiness. In children and older people this happens faster.
