Home remedies · Throat, pharynx & cough
No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.
Sip slowly, breathe out slowly on purpose, let the shoulders drop. Notice whether the feeling goes when eating — it usually does.
The feeling comes from tension in the throat muscles, often with stress. While eating those muscles are busy, so it disappears.
It is an observation, not a treatment. And it does not distinguish tension from reflux, which gives the same feeling.
If food actually sticks, swallowing hurts, weight is dropping, or it is one-sided: have it checked.
Get seen at once: severe one-sided pain with high fever, trouble swallowing your own saliva, a muffled voice or breathlessness. Likewise hoarseness lasting beyond three weeks, and coughing blood. In children also drooling and sitting with the chin pushed forward.
