No home remedy here replaces treatment, and none is talked down. What has done good for generations does good — even if no one ever measured it. Where something is well studied, it says so. Where it is only experience, it says that too.

What you do

Bathe at 37 to 38 degrees for ten to fifteen minutes, then wrap up warm and lie down.

Why it is plausible

Warmth relaxes the muscles, the steam moistens the airways, and the whole thing makes you tired — useful before sleep.

What it cannot do

It does not influence the course of the infection.

When to leave it

Not with a fever above 38.5 degrees, not with circulation problems and not with heart failure — warmth puts extra load on the circulation.

When it is no longer a home remedy

When it is no longer a home remedy

Have it assessed: fever beyond three days without improvement or rising again, breathlessness, pain on breathing, confusion. In infants under three months any fever is a reason. Also a nosebleed that has not stopped after twenty minutes of correct pressure.
